The Summer Palace

Below are pictures from the Emperor's Summer Palace. The Summer Palace used to be the Emperor's vacation home. They should do an MTV Cribs China edition. Nowadays, the palace is one of Beijing's major tourist attractions.

The grounds were very pretty to stroll around. As with most tourist areas in China, however, this experience is marred by the vendors and beggars who approach you wherever you go. They knock on your bus window as you pull up to the palace, and follow you around the palace grounds shoving postcard booklets and popsicles in your face.

As compared with similar architecture in Japan, the Chinese variety features many more vibrant colors and an abundant use of stone as a construction material. Traditional Japanese architecture is mostly made out of wood and utilizes simplistic design based on repetitive darker colors.

But enough of me talking about the place, please, take look at the pictures below.
