A large gold chrysanthemum on one of the doors of the main gate to the Yasukuni Shrine grounds. This is the imperial seal.

    Looks like a chrysanthmum (or however you spell it) to me...the emperor's symbol?

    If so, then the bigger the flower the more important the thing the flower is on.
