Character statues from Natsume Soseki's beloved novel Botchan. Soseki spent one year living in Matsuyama and working as a teacher (the parallels between his life and mine are already staggering!). Soseki often frequented Dogo Onsen and the bathhouse plays a key role in his book. In many ways, it is this very book that put Matsuyama and Ehime Prefecture on the map.
