The Tokyo Tower celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. This fully operational broadcast tower opened in 1958 and is 333 meters tall when measured from the base to the tip of the lightening rod atop. This makes it the world's tallest self-supporting steel tower, beating the Eiffel Tower by a slim 13 meters.
