Here is the temple up close. The island of Shikoku is famous for a pilgrimage that encompasses 88 different temples throughout all the prefectures on the island. I wonder if this is one of the 88? It used to be that one would complete the pilgrimage on foot. Nowadays one can visit all the sites by car or even book an 88 temple packaged tour. Nothing like spiritualism meets consumerism!

That is a lovely picture. Alas, that is not one of the 88 temples on the pilgramage. My wife did completed the pilgramage before she left Japan to be married. If you desire to do the pilgramage, you best be prepared for the task and study the route and have your materials prepared. The pilgramage is not completed until you visit the resting place of Kukai.
