Izumo Taisha is Japan's oldest Shinto Shrine. It is the annual gathering place for Shinto's eight million gods. The shrine is considered to be the second most important in Japan. The most important shrine in all of Japan is Ise Jingu (Mie Prefecture), which is dedicated to the sun goddess Amaterasu.

The physical building of the bath house in SA was based on the Dogo Hot Spring building here in Matsuyama City.

But, I bet he did take the idea of all the different gods and stuff from the stories around Izumo Taisha.
