Since "Kanoko" is a sweet shop first and foremost, a dessert comes with every lunch order. This is shiruko or red bean soup (with mochi). Usually shiruko is prepared with granular "tsubu-an" red bean paste. This soup was made with smooth "koshi-an" red bean paste. I prefer the smooth variety, so I found this to be quite delicious. Since the flavor of red bean soup is super sweet, it can grow tiring after several sips. Thus, orders of shiruko are almost always served with some sort of salty pickle to balance out the sweetness.
